About the Interim President
Timothy Chandler was appointed interim president on December 19, 2014, but his leadership of Towson University first began in August 2014 when he was appointed Acting President. Prior to serving in his current role, Dr. Chandler served as Towson’s Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs.
Prior to his arrival at Towson, Dr. Chandler was a faculty member at Kent State University for 22 years serving as Senior Associate Provost (January 2009 – December 2012) and Dean of the College of the Arts (formerly Fine and Professional Arts) (July 2004 – December 2008). In addition, he was professor of Sport Studies in the School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport. Prior to his service at Kent State he taught at Syracuse University and has been a visiting lecturer in the School of Physical Education, Sport and Leisure at De Montfort University, UK.
Dr. Chandler earned degrees from, Loughborough University, UK (B.Ed., English Literature and Physical Education), Dalhousie University, Canada (M.Sc., Sport Science), and Stanford University (A.M., 19th century British history and Ph.D., education/ sport history).
Among his published works are: Making Men: Rugby and Masculine Identity; Making the Rugby World: Race, Gender, Commerce; and With God on Their Side: Sport in the Service of Religion.
