Parking
A handicapped plate/placard and a valid university parking permit are required to park in designated handicapped spaces on campus. Handicapped permits/license plates allow the registered individual to utilize handicapped spaces, but do not allow free parking.
Handicapped Spaces
Only the individual who the handicapped permit/plate is issued to may utilize a handicapped space. If applicable, this individual must always carry a copy of the state-issued medical certification whenever using a state-issued handicapped placard or plates. This certification must be presented to law enforcement and official university staff upon request.
In order to ensure the availability of handicapped spaces for authorized users, the university will strictly enforce and monitor the use of handicapped spaces. Vehicles that do not have a valid handicapped permit displayed are subject to a citation and the vehicle being towed at the owner's expense. If you are transporting an individual who is authorized to use a handicapped permit/plate, they MUST be in the vehicle when it is parked. If the person is dropped off at another location, you may not park in a handicapped space.
Individuals who display a valid, state-issued handicap hang permit or license plate and a university parking permit may utilize handicapped spaces. Individuals may also park at a stand alone meter for two time frames without cost if all handicapped spaces are filled.
Individuals in possession of a handicapped plate/placard and who do not have a faculty/staff permit and wish to have access to handicapped spaces in a faculty/staff lot must submit a letter requesting an exception to access a restricted lot. The letter must include original documentation from a physician indicating why the ParaTransit can not be utilized and how long the access will be required.
For additional information regarding Maryland handicapped permits/license plates, please visit the Maryland MVA site.
The following parking lots have accessible spaces designated for individuals with a disability who possess the appropriate handicapped hang tags and/or license plates.
