Business Systems & Processes Major

Over a century ago, Henry Ford revolutionized the automobile industry and subsequently the entire global economy not with the ingenuity of a product (Model T) but with a process (the assembly line).

Today, organizations continue to use processes to gain a competitive advantage and innovate the marketplace with the help of highly trained individuals with technical and business know-how and sophisticated technology, including enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems like SAP. ERP integrates various functions within an organization to achieve efficient coordination and communication, enhanced decision-making as well as increased security.

About the Major

The business systems and processes (BSAP) major provides a strong technical background in applied information systems while emphasizing the business knowledge and analytical skills necessary to successfully analyze big data to make informed decisions that impact performance.

The BSAP major focuses on empowering students with hands-on experience in ERP designs, configurations, and applications to help IT organizations and end users and improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and security. Specifically, students in this major will be able to define and explain ERP concepts, processes, and values in an organizational environment; utilize an ERP system to manage a variety of business functions and an organization; generate business intelligence using ERP to support decision making; and help organizations drive operational and process effectiveness and efficiency. Courses include hands-on training in SAP, SAP Lumira, and Salesforce. In addition, students gain insight into process automation and learn tools like UiPath.

With the BSAP major you will:

• Learn how to manage integrated business processes and make decisions that transform business environments and practices.
• Be trained in the market-leading SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and earn the SAP Recognition Award.
• Gain both the technology and business skills needed to position yourself competitively in the employment market place.
• Become qualified for careers in business with positions such as systems analyst, operations analyst, master data analyst, SAP consultant, among others.

Complete a Double Major in BUAD and BSAP 

If you're already planning to major in business administration, you need just a few additional courses (one additional semester) to graduate with TWO majors and earn the SAP Recognition Award.

Admission Requirements

BSAP is a screened major. Students are admitted to the major only after successfully completing a set of required courses with a C or higher in each of those courses and an overall TU GPA of 2.0 or higher. See all admission requirements.

International students may benefit from the program's STEM designation, which supports an optional practical training extension.

Scholarships

Outstanding students majoring in BSAP who demonstrate clear career goals are eligible for the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 each semester.

The requirements include being a sophomore, junior, or senior standing, being registered as a full-time student taking 12 or more credits per semester, and the completion of one full year at Towson University prior to submission. In order to apply, students must submit a scholarship application, a current resume, and a 500-word essay describing their future career goals related to gaining a position in Information Technology.
