Social Science (M.S.)

View the world through the lens of the social sciences and explore the most timely and relevant issues in the discipline.

TU students in class

In this program, you will create and follow a program of study coordinated by the departments of economics; geography; history; political science; psychology; sociology, anthropology and criminal justice; and women’s studies. The program provides an opportunity to develop and publish a thesis as you gain familiarity with research, theoretical advances, applications and methodological approaches related to current topics in social science. Faculty members work closely with you to prepare your thesis or a final portfolio of your work.

Tailor Your Program

You have the freedom to build a degree tailored to your interests. Choose from two tracks of study in the program. Build your foundation in the social sciences with courses from the perspectives of the geographer, the economist and the historian, along with course work on East Asian security issues, American politics and developmental human learning. Then choose one track of specialization — either General or Global Analysis – and one discipline within that track.

  • General Track a program ideal for teachers and other professionals wishing to study the latest advancements in social science theory, methods and substantive issues.
  • Global Analysis Track a program of interest to students pursuing or continuing careers in human rights, international non-governmental organizations, homeland security, intelligence and policy analysis.
