Towson University Center for STEM Excellence

The Center for STEM Excellence is located in the Columbus Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on Pier VI. The Center is the home of the Bioscience Education and Outreach Program and other efforts.

Towson University Field Station

The Towson University Field Station is a place for faculty and students to investigate and research the natural world. Located on 223 wooded acres in northern Baltimore County, the TU Field Station is adjacent to the Gun Powder Falls State Park and is protected from development by a conservation easement.

Port Deposit-TU Northern Map Turtle Station

The Port Deposit-TU Northern Map Turtle Station is located in the river town of Port Deposit in Cecil County, MD.  Towson University research began in Port Deposit in 2008 when community members spotted northern map turtles crossing a marina parking lot attempting to nest.

STEM Education Resource Center

A key goal of this resource center is to support the school-based STEM teaching of Towson’s preservice teachers. These preservice elementary and secondary teachers are often in situations where they would like to teach standards-based, inquiry-focused STEM activities, but the schools do not have the necessary equipment. The resource center makes this equipment available for check-out for these preservice teachers.

The Towson University Biodiversity Center

The Towson University Biodiversity Center (TUBC) is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded project aimed at preservation and consolidation of the existing natural history collections at Towson University. This center is organized around its two largest, most extensive and oldest collections; the botanical and entomological collections.

The Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory (UEBL) is a collaborative effort between several departments that is dedicated to studying environmental issues associated with urbanization.

The Planetarium

On the third Friday of every month throughout the year, faculty, students and friends of the TU Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences Department give presentations at the planetarium. Friday evening shows are open to the public. They usually include a tour of the night sky and discussion of topics in astronomy.

Glen Arboretum

The Glen Arboretum is a valuable resource for ongoing research in biology and chemistry, and a central location for the experiential learning-based program, the Towson University Challenge Course. Future plans for the Glen involve development of new signage, more accessible foot paths and restoration of the picnic areas.
