Associate Vice President Executive Director, Applied Research and Technical Services Chief Economist, RESI
Dr. Daraius Irani is the Associate Vice President of the Division of Innovation and Applied Research at Towson University. Dr. Irani also serves as the Executive Director of the Applied Research and Technical Services group as well as the Chief Economist of the Regional Economic and Studies Institute (RESI).
During his more than sixteen year tenure at RESI, Dr. Irani has managed and served as lead economist on well over 250 research and analysis projects ranging from policy analysis to economic and fiscal impact studies as well as providing an economic forecast for the state of Maryland. His clients range from the state of Maryland to Fortune 500 companies.
Dr. Irani also provides numerous economic presentations to organizations across Maryland. He has appeared on CNN, the Marc Steiner show, Midday Show with Dan Rodrick's, Maryland Public Television's Business Connection and he is often quoted in articles published by the Maryland Daily Record, the Baltimore Business Journal, the Baltimore Sun, and the Washington Post.
As the Executive Director for the Applied Research and Technical Services group, Dr. Irani provides leadership and management across several service areas including GIS analysis and application development (Center for GIS) hosting, website design, IT consulting, Business Analysis and Management Consulting as well as economic and policy analysis (RESI). Finally, as the Associate Vice President for the Division of Innovation and Applied Research, Dr. Irani assists in the leadership of the division and is responsible for the Administration and Finance team.
Prior to joining RESI in 1997, Dr. Irani was the senior economist at the Santa Barbara Economic Forecasting project where he developed county-level economic forecasts for Santa Barbara County, San Luis Obispo County and Ventura County. In addition, he co-authored several reports including an analysis of the oil and gas industry and the tourism sector in the Central Coast of California. Dr. Irani received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
