Nutrition Education Program Information 

Towson University Wellness Center has designed the Nutrition Education Program to educate and empower individuals who are committed to making healthy lifestyle changes. 

The Nutrition Education Program provides you with instruction and support in our program-specific use of nutritional applications and data tracking, health-risk screenings and metabolism measurement (metabolic testing) at the Wellness Center.  You will also learn through a series of workshops the importance of using your personal data and specifically, how those measures can be influenced with lifestyle changes.  Through interactive lectures, nutrition recommendations and a personalized plan of action, you will have a structured plan that will guide you on your way to effective weight loss.  In addition, you will learn WHY we structure healthy lifestyle and weight loss plans the way we do.  This program will give you a long-term plan designed to produce long lasting results.

The Nutrition Education Program Includes:   4 Workshops + 2 Additional Months of Support

  • Baseline Assessments and Screens:
    Height/Weight, BMI, Circumferences
    Sleep Apnea and Nutrition Risk screenings.
    Identify potential nutritional risk and barriers to weight loss prior to starting.
  •  Metabolic Testing:
    Resting Metabolic Rate: 20 minute test to establish your resting metabolism.
  • Nutrition Education:
    Nutrition application instruction and support, data collection, food tracking and report preparation.
    Macro-nutrients and individualized data worksheets.
    Relationship of energy balance, nutrient timing, metabolism and body composition.
    Meal Planning and healthy food choices.
  • Support Staff:

    ADDITIONAL 8-Weeks of program support to maximize your efforts and to help prepare for your long- term success.

The Wellness Center offers a variety of group exercise classes designed to help you achieve a fit body and positive mind and spirit. We look forward to having you enroll in our group exercise classes. If you have any questions about these programs, please contact the Wellness Center at 410-704-4555.

After registering, you will receive an email with directions and confirmation of your class reservation(s). We review all registrations and may contact you for further information if needed. If we decide that a particular class is not a good fit, we will contact you to discuss other options.

nutrition education program

NUTRITION WORKSHOPS (4 Workshops + 8 Weeks Support)

75-minute class. Series of 4 classes over 8 weeks plus 8 additional weeks of support to redefine weight management success!  Workshop to integrate your individual metabolism measurement (metabolic testing), nutrition, sleep quality/risk with nutrition tracking, timing, meal planning and energy balance.  Workshop days/times are interchangeable. Ongoing support and motivation for 2 additional months included!!

Better Balance

Days: Wednesdays & Fridays
Time: 9:00-9:30am

30-minute class, 2 times per week. Balance focused class that strengthens the feet, ankles, and legs; improves proprioception; strengthens core and helps maintain/restore neutral posture and alignment.

Boot Camp

60-minutes. Boot camp is a style of training that focuses on full body fitness including cardio, muscular endurance, and range of motion/flexibility and weight loss. This 60-minute class is a great way to get fit, have fun and stay motivated with the help of your other teammates! You will leave with a high level of discipline for exercise and a healthier body!

30-minute class. Beginner class that focuses on full body exercises that will help improve your muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Floor, Core and More II

45-minute classes that utilize key Yoga and Pilates concepts to addresses core strength, muscle endurance, range of motion/flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, and more... all with minimal equipment.

30-minutes. Short on time? Then this class is perfect for your busy schedule! This 30-minute "hard core" workout focuses on a combination of exercises that will not only hit the visible abdominal muscles but also the important deep inner core muscles in your torso, back, hips and pelvic floor to give you phenomenal stability.

45 & 60-minute classes.  Cardiovascular ride designed to burn calories and keep your muscles in shape.  Participants are guided through a warm-up, up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, and cool-down.  Participants determine their own levels of exertion, but your instructor will certainly encourage and motivate you to challenge yourself.

45-minute circuit workout designed to improve mobility, strength and stamina. Circuits consist of 6 to 10 strength exercises that are completed one exercise after another for a set time before moving on to the next exercise. The total number of circuits performed during a training session may vary.

45 & 60-minutes. This class series will focus on proper alignment to build strength and flexibility through a gentle yoga flow. Students will have the opportunity to explore twists, back bends, and balancing poses, with modifications for all levels. Breathing techniques and mindfulness meditation will also be emphasized to provide students with tools for stress reduction. All classes will include the use of props for pose modifications to allow students to individualize their flow and safely practice at any level of physical ability. 

 Zumba

45-minutes. Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning dance-fitness using the latest red-hot international music and choreography.
