Sport Management Major

The major in sport management is designed to address the unique position of sports in American business and to prepare students for careers in athletic and recreation administration, the fitness industry, college and professional sports, and retail marketing.

The growth and development of the sport industry world-wide has created opportunities for management professionals in a wide variety of sport settings.

Sport management is a unique interdisciplinary program that combines core courses in kinesiology with business courses offered through the College of Business and Economics. The kinesiology core allows students to gain a background in sport and its role in society through a study of sport history, sport psychology, individualized fitness, and management aspects unique to sport. Within the Department of Kinesiology students will also select a group of 15 units of upper-level electives to personalize the program of study to their specific interest area. Students may opt to complete a formal minor in business administration including accounting, micro- and macro economics, finance, marketing, and management.
