Do a lot of TU students participate in community service? Are you involved?
“Community service at TU is big. I love being involved and seeing how I can make a difference. I volunteer at TU’s Dowell Health Center, educating students about the health center's resources and HIV. I work with the nurses there a lot. It's because of them that I chose to become a nurse.”
Have you started any clubs here at Towson?
“Yes, I have. It only took eight of my friends to start HOPE, Health Outreach for Peer Educators. We volunteered at World AIDS Day, sharing with others how HIV affects all of
our lives.”
How did you choose your major?
“The summer before my freshman year, I worked at the Dowell Health Center on campus. I realized that there are many different things that can be done in nursing. I started working in the HIV/AIDS department, and that's when I decided that nursing was for me. In fact, that’s where the idea for forming HOPE came from.”
What is your favorite thing about being a TU college student?
“I love being a SAGE mentor. I’m always learning new things from the students I mentor. One time, a Nigerian student told me that Shardae means 'making ground.'
They come to talk to me about issues that they’re having. We all just like to hang out and have fun.”

What’s your favorite pastime?
“I love to shop. You don’t even want to know how much I spend up the street at the Towson Town Mall. They have so many stores I just can’t help myself. I usually walk there so it’s hard to carry everything back to campus!”
