Teacher Certification for Health Science, Art, Dance and Physical Education
If you are interested in teacher certification in health science education, art education, dance education, or physical education, your first step is to contact the academic department for the program and make an appointment to talk to an adviser. Department contact information is available from the university's A-Z Directory. If you decide to pursue the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program, complete the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Enrollment Form and have it signed by your departmental adviser. The form will then be forwarded by the department to the Office of Admissions for processing.
Teacher Certification in Early Childhood and Secondary Education
If you are interested in teacher certification in early childhood education or secondary education, your first step is to contact the Center for Professional Practice in the College of Education for an application packet that will also provide application materials for K-12 programs. The Center for Professional Practice is located in Hawkins Hall, room 303, and can be reached by calling 410-704-2567. Eventually you will complete the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Enrollment Form, and the Center for Professional Practice will forward it to the Office of Admissions for processing.
Maryland Teacher Re-certification
If you are seeking re-certification, you should first contact the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to have your transcript evaluated. Next, contact the Center for Professional Practice in the Towson University College of Education about taking the classes MSDE has designated for students who wish to be re-certified to teach in Maryland. Towson University cannot make this determination.
