Towson, Md. (October 5, 2011): The Office of Sponsored Programs & Research (OSPR) is pleased to announce the first Faculty Researchers’ forum, a projected lunch time event that will be held monthly to foster a supportive culture of research and communication between Towson University faculty members. This gathering will enable faculty to interact and exchange research ideas and experiences with members of their peer group with whom they would otherwise have minimal contact. The OSPR believes that by firmly establishing a communicative and cooperative network of researchers within the campus community, both experienced researchers and newcomers will be able to take full advantage of one another’s experience,  support, and advice, ultimately producing a supportive research culture to nurtures our faculty as they develop their scholarly pursuits and activities.

The idea for a faculty-oriented forum arose during the OSPR “Telling Our Stories” workshop  in August, 2010. During the workshop’s informal panel discussion, attendees appreciated the opportunity to interact with speakers from throughout the University with significant experience in conducting independent research and carrying out scholarly agendas. The event generated much discussion and highlighted the many valuable benefits to be found in networking and collaborating with colleagues across the University’s academic departments. In light of that success, the OSPR staff is implementing the Research Forum idea as suggested by the workshop attendees.

In keeping with the spirit of encouraging new faculty relationships of potential benefit to future research endeavors, the OSPR aims to host these forums once a month. The first of these forums is scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 11:30 to 1:30, in room 333 of the Administration building. Any and all faculty members interested in pursuing future research projects or discussion research activity with their colleagues are invited to attend. Please bring your lunch; snacks and beverages will be provided.
