Bringing Funding Opportunities to TU in the Community

October 18, 2011 (Towson, Md.): The Office of Sponsored Programs & Research is pleased to collaborate with TU in the Community to connect faculty and staff with funding opportunities via the TU in the Community Funder Tool. To learn more about this asset, the OSPR spoke with Kelsey Beckett, Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator, who described the Tool and some of its features. “TU in the Community is an innovative outreach website for use by TU faculty, staff, and students, as well as external community members. It features a searchable database of TU’s community engagement initiatives, a map to locate projects in the area, a directory of faculty and staff leading projects, and information about partnering with Towson University on projects.” The new Funder Tool in TU in the community offers a curated database of funding opportunities of particular interest to the Towson community. The tool’s user-friendly design will help faculty and staff find a sampling of appropriate opportunities by searching directly, or by signing up for emails related to their research interests as they become available. Emails will be automatically sent to faculty who subscribe to the Funder Tool’s alert service, so that repeated visits to the tool are not necessary.

Since Towson has an interdisciplinary community of researchers, Beckett notes, “the Funder Tool will contain funding opportunities for many different interests. The OSPR and Development Staff will post opportunities that they feel are especially relevant to faculty, staff, and researchers at Towson University. A person will be able to search by research and professional interests or by his or her academic department for the opportunities that are most beneficial to him or her.”  Faculty can access the tool and sign up for emails of relevant opportunities by creating a TU in the Community profile and navigating to the Funder section.
