About the Department
The Department of Mass Communication is an established leader in the mid-Atlantic
region, and provides programs that help students achieve outstanding visual, verbal
and written communication skills.
What We Offer
You can choose from broad coursework tracks in advertising, journalism and public
relations in the mass communication major. Students gain practical skills that can be used in a wide range of careers. We also
offer a master’s in communication management with research oriented coursework that emphasizes public relations and strategic
communication.
Gain Hands-on Experience
Towson University’s media center gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in creating your own productions. Take advantage of the journalism, multimedia, video
and audio labs.
Student Groups
Visit the Baltimore Watchdog to read student-produced news stories. Check out the Facebook page of the Towson PR Group, TU PRSSA, and email the Towson Advertising Club, AdFed TU, for more information on how to get involved in these student groups.
Community Relationships
The department builds and maintains strong relationships with alumni and community
leaders from the business, government and nonprofit sectors. These connections and
partnerships help students prepare for a successful career in communications.
Internships
Mass communication students can receive credit for internships and independent studies.
