The Towson University College of Business and Economics (CBE) and Cintas Corporation held the Fall 2016 Live Case Competition on Friday, Dec. 2. Nine executive judges from Cintas Corporation evaluated student presentations for three hours, with the top three teams being recognized at the end.

Segun Adeniji, Christina Basuino and Sean O’Grady comprised the winning team. Laurie Brown, Taylor Brown, Sheldon Dipnarine, Reinner Malenab and Kevin Truong were on the second-place team. Rachel Ermatinger, Austin McWethy, Joshua Bauman, Eric Winn, Matthew Stevens and Jason Clark finished third as a team.

“I think [the assignment] was super practical and relatable,” said O’Grady. “A lot of classwork up until this case was theoretical. When you work on problems from a textbook, it’s all there. You’re just looking back at two to three pages. This case actually forced you to go out and do research and find the answers to apply to a real situation.”

This competition was the culminating event for CBE’s Capstone Business Policy & Strategy course. This semester more than 300 students across 10 class sections worked in teams to research and evaluate the business challenges posed by Cintas Corporation. Faculty selected top competitors from each section to present before Cintas executives.

Cintas will hire three students from the competition to work as a team at Cintas Baltimore as paid implementation consultants during the winter term. These students will also be considered for long-term paid positions in Cintas Baltimore’s Management Trainee Program.

“I was truly impressed by the high quality of ideas presented by the Towson University students," said Cintas General Manager Jimmy Lien. "This was a great opportunity for students to work on a local, real-life business challenge.”

During the winter term, the implementation team will evaluate/pursue the top proposals presented at the final case competition and create a summary report for Cintas and CBE as to the feasibility, implementation, and impact of the winning ideas. The team will also make recommendations regarding follow-through for the upcoming spring term competition.
