The U.S. News & World Report 2017 America’s Best Colleges guide ranks Towson University among the nation’s best online graduate education programs.

The university occupies 66th place in the magazine’s list of 197 private and public regional institutions offering online graduate programming. Last year TU was ranked 153rd.

U.S. News evaluated several factors to rank the best online education degree programs, including faculty credentials, graduation rates and student services and technologies. Towson’s program ranked high in small class size, available online resources and services and the quality of faculty.

“Towson University’s College of Education’s rise in the U.S. News rankings for online graduate programs reflects our commitment to serving future school leaders and other working professionals with the excellence that Towson is known for,” said Laurie Mullen, dean of the College of Education.

“This success is due to the hard work of our faculty who are deeply dedicated to graduate students,” Mullen noted.

Diane Wood, chair and professor of the Department of Instructional Leadership and Professional Development, said, “I am delighted to see that our online instructional leadership programs have risen considerably in the rankings. The credit goes to a highly professional faculty committed to continuous improvement, standards-based curriculum and assessment, and engaging online pedagogy.

“Under the leadership of Dr. Marilyn Nicholas, director of the online program, our required courses have been approved and endorsed by Quality Matters,” Wood added. “Several faculty are now Quality Matters reviewers.”
