Towson University welcomed more than 2,300 new alumni during Winter Commencement
Towson University welcomed 2,320 new alumni at the 2019 Winter Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 18 and 19 at SECU Arena.
Wednesday morning’s ceremony honored students from the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Liberal Arts. In the afternoon, students from the College of Education and the College of Fine Arts and Communication walked across the Commencement stage.
On Thursday morning, the College of Business and Economics and the College of Health Professions honored their graduates in the final Commencement ceremony.
Winter Commencement includes graduates from the 2019 summer and fall terms. The College of Liberal Arts conferred the most degrees (578), while the College of Health Professions (479) and the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics (453) both honored more than 400 graduates.
The most graduate degrees were conferred by the College of Education (139), followed closely by the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics (111), the College of Health Professions (109) and the College of Liberal Arts (105).
On Wednesday, USM Chancellor and former TU President Robert L. Caret remarked on the university’s tremendous growth and momentum in the region. “It’s not just size, it’s also quality. It’s also maturity [...] It’s commitment to students. It is a leader in community service,” he said.
Addressing the graduates, he added, “Like for me, Towson will be part of you for the rest of your lives.”
TU President Kim Schatzel commended the graduates on their achievements, and their readiness to tackle whatever comes next. “You leave Towson prepared to take on new challenges, build careers, and change the world for the better. So graduates, go inspire, go achieve, go serve, and always remember, go Tigers.”
