Parents and Families FAQs

Most of the information below is intended for the parents and families of new freshmen. For the parents and families of new transferring students, if you have a question that is not answered below, please contact New Student Programs directly and we will happily answer your question.

Academic Advising and Course Registration

When does my student register for classes?

  • Over the summer your student will work with the Academic Advising Center to build their first semester class schedule. They should start the process by filling out the Academic Interest Form online.

When does my student meet with their Academic Adviser?

  • Each new freshman student is assigned a First-Year Experience (FYE) Adviser for their entire freshman year at Towson and will meet them at Welcome to Towson (orientation).
  • During the semester, your student should plan on meeting with his/her adviser to discuss any challenge that they experience, receive intentional advising, and also to remove their hold in preparation for spring semester course registration.

Orientation

When is Orientation?

  • Welcome to Towson is what we call our orientation program, and it takes place on Saturday, August 24-Tuesday, August 27. Unlike many other schools, we do not have a summer program for new freshman students.

Is my student required to attend all of Orientation?

  • The Welcome to Towson program has been specifically designed for your student's benefit and to address his/her transition needs. While attendance at orientation is required for freshmen students there are opportunities in the schedule for your student to chose between the activities that appeal the most to him/her.

Billing and Financial Aid

When do I pay my student's bill to Towson?

  • Your student's tuition bill to Towson is based on their registration for classes. Once they are registered for classes at Towson, The Bursar's Office generates their bill and your student will receive an email notification via their campus email account. For more information, including payment deadlines, please consult The Bursar's Office.

How can I view my student's billing statement and make a payment?

  • The eBill and Payment system provides students the opportunity to grant restricted access to parents or other third parties to view and pay billing statements. From your student's Towson Online Services Student Center account, click on the eBill/Pymt Add Users link. Once in the eBill and Payment system, click on the Authorized Users tab. You will need your authorized user email address to set up their account.

Who can I talk to regarding Financial Aid?

  • The process of applying for aid can seem complicated and time-consuming, which is why Towson has a specific office devoted to addressing your questions and offering you assistance. Please contact the Financial Aid Office and they will assist you.

Living On Campus

How does my student request on campus housing?

Where can I get more information about Housing at Towson?

  • Information regarding roommate requests, room rates, and other housing related topics, please refer to the University Housing web site.

What are the Barton, Douglass, Paca & Tubman Houses and Millennium Hall?

  • These housing locations are in the West Village area of campus, and are managed by Capstone Management. They have a separate application process. More information is available online through the main Housing and Residence Life web site.

What should I know about moving in and living on campus?

  • Helpful information on many topics, including preparing to have a roommate and what to bring is available on the Moving In page from Housing and Residence Life.

Living Off Campus

What resources are available to students living off-campus?

  • Off-Campus Student Services (OCSS), based out of the Office of Student Activities, is the primary resource for students living off-campus. They offer programs and services to all students that commute to Towson.

Meal Plans

How does my student sign up for a meal plan?

  • A variety of meal plans and dining options are available to all Towson students. For more information please contact Dining Services.
