Biography

Mike is the Director, Extended Education and On-Line Learning (EEOL) at Towson University in Maryland. The unit of EEOL is part of the Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO) headed up by Vice President, Dr. James Clements. Mike's responsibilities range from the daily routine of budgets, administration, and personnel to the more detailed and programmatic process of the coordination and partnership with conducting online and other distance learning programs in Maryland and across the globe. The unit of EEOL also works with faculty and external partners/clients to set-up workshops; short courses; meeting management for conferences and symposiums; Homeland Security Programs; contracts; grants; community outreach; certification programs - Project Management, CISSP and others; and additional extended and continuing education activities. The unit of EEOL also assists in setting up customized on-site training for companies and government agencies. In addition the unit conducts market research, needs assessment, development/fund-raising/sponsorship, and other strategies relevant to the growth of Towson University.

Prior to coming to Towson University Mike was with Virginia Tech University in Southwest Virginia for ten years in their Continuing and Professional Education area, which is a part of Outreach and International Affairs. Mike held positions during those ten years as Program Leader, Consortia Leader and Assistant Director. At Virginia Tech he worked with a variety of clients in academia, business, and government to assist them with market analysis, needs assessment, fund raising/sponsorship, development, budgeting, marketing, delivery, and evaluation of their training programs, conferences and trade shows, distance learning, and special events. Prior to the ten years within Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Tech, he was a Senior Research Associate with a project sponsored by Virginia's Department of Education, conducting research, writing reports, giving presentations, and evaluating vocational education school systems. Before coming to Virginia Tech in 1993, he was a corporate manager trainer for the Ground Round Corporation.

Mike holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management and a master's degree from Virginia Tech in Vocational and Technical Education, with a concentration in Training in Development. He is currently ABD as he works to complete his dissertation for a Ph.D. in Career and Occupational Studies with a concentration in Training and Development.
