Executive in Residence Program
Division of Economic and Community Outreach

The Towson University Executive in Residence Program connects business & government leaders with our dynamic students, faculty research projects, and community engagement initiatives. Launched in 2009 by President Bob Caret, the unique structure of the program will allow for Executives to focus on a variety of areas including Applied Research & Technology Transfer, Mentoring and Student Advising, Speaking Engagements, and Enhancing our Curriculum. The Executive in Residence Score-card will measure the impact of the program and provide valuable advice for our university community.
The TU Executive in Residence will work with the President to determine what their focus will be during their appointment. Focus areas include
- Advising and Mentoring: Attend, observe, and speak to graduate and undergraduate classes. Executives may teach entire courses or guest lecture on topics within their area of expertise. Mentor and advise interested students in formal or informal sessions on career choices, interview skills and strategies, etc.
- Applied Research & Technology Transfer: Work with the Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO) centers and faculty to provide advice and strategic business planning expertise to assist in increasing grants and contracts. Work with the applied research faculty and centers to develop business plans.
- Strengthen Ties with the Business Community: Connect incubator companies and faculty/staff with relevant companies and potential business partners. Host a lecture that brings together business leaders, faculty, and students for a stimulating presentation and/or panel discussion relating to the changing business environment and key issues affecting the local business community. Executives may also act as a keynote speaker at commencements.
- Curriculum Enhancement: Assist with the identification of the needs and expectation of the business community, and advise on how Towson’s academic programs might respond. Executives are ideally positioned to advise faculty in developing their teaching, learning, and research activities.
