The Division of Economic and Community Outreach's community partnership programs nurture talent, explore possibilities and encourage participants, regardless of background, to think big and aim high.
 Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland since 1999, Building STEPS is a private non-profit organization developed to expose bright, underserved students to professions that rely on science and technology and to help them excel in these fields where minorities are overwhelmingly underrepresented.
 The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities brings together universities that share the mission of striving for national excellence while contributing to the economic development, social health, and cultural vitality of the urban or metropolitan centers served.
 Destination Imagination takes the ideas of creativity, problem solving and teamwork and packages them in a fun and meaningful program. Based on the concept of divergent thinking-understanding that there is more than one way to solve a problem-Destination Imagination encourages children to build on their strengths and to discover skills they never knew they possessed, be they technical, theatrical, analytical, comic, linguistic, musical, etc. Towson University was host to this years Destination Imagination creative problem solving program. Over 1400 students from all across Maryland came to Towson to participate in the Maryland Festival of creativitity.
The Maryland Alliance for Information Security Assurance (MAISA) was formed by Towson University - a NSA and DHS designated National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. The main objective of MAISA is to strengthen information technology security assurance programs in Maryland Community Colleges, Technical Schools and Universities, and to support Maryland's efforts to develop Homeland Security initiatives through linkages between these academic institutions and federal, state and local governments.
 In August 2003, Towson University entered into a partnership with information technology executives in the Mid-Atlantic region to form the Mid-Atlantic CIO Forum.
The Forum is designed to foster excellence in business and information technology in an environment that promotes educational and networking opportunities for CIOs facing similar challenges and issues. CIOs participate with peers to share information and experiences, and to exchange best practices in peer-to-peer discussion sessions.
