Beth Skinner - Co-Director of Forensics
Beth
works with the policy debate team and teaches argumentation at Towson. She
debated for the University of Kansas and then coached in graduate school at Southwest Missouri
State University
and Wayne State University.
In her spare time she enjoys cutting cards and causing trouble. If she
wasn't a debate coach she would either be a pirate or a truck driver. She served as a Final Round Judge at Cross Examination
Debate Association Nationals in 2007. Skinner is also a co-recipient of
the John A. Jacobs Award for her contribution to the activity as co-founder
of the Baltimore College Debate Initiative.

Chris Baron - Debate Coach
Chris
Baron has been involved with debate for 20 years. A co-founder of the
Baltimore Urban Debate League, Chris has helped institutionalize successful
debate programs in more than 30 public high schools and 20 middle schools in
the city. Chris is a member of the International Debate Education Association’s
governing board. He debated for the University
of Kansas, and coached successful
teams at Missouri State, Wayne State,
and, of course, Towson!
In his free time, Chris loses at poker, listens to loud music, and,
sometimes, smiles.

Andy Ellis - Debate Coach
Andy has been
involved with debate for 17 years. He was a successful high school debater at
Governor Thomas Johnson in Frederick MD. He has coached The Maryland State champion twice and the
runner up twice. Andy debated for Towson
in college and was frequently a late out round
participant at large regional tournaments, as well as a frequent award winner
at larger national tournaments. After his time at Towson Andy coached for the Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont. While at Vermont he coached one team to the
National Debate Tournament and also coached the 3rd Place Novice Team in the nation.
Also while at the University
of Vermont Andy worked
to open up educational opportunities to debaters around the world by
maintaining and managing Debate
Central, the #1 Debate site on the world wide web. Ellis is co-recipient
of the John A. Jacobs Award with Beth Skinner for their contributions to the
activity as co-founders of the Baltimore College Debate Initiative.

Brian Bittner - Debate Coach
Brian
is a Towson
University graduate and
former President of the TUSD team. He was the 1996 Harford County
Forensics League Lincoln-Douglas debate champion. He previously coached
policy debate at Southern Illinois University and Wayne State
University. He
returned to the Baltimore
area after running afoul of a Detroit
street gang. His favorite things about
debate are attending meetings and finding treasures at highway gas stations. Brian
will be a big-time politician one day.

Shawntia Diggs - Debate Coach
Diggs is a
graduating senior majoring in Communication Studies. Diggs was a nationally
competitive debater on the regional and national circuit. She was named
to the CEDA All American Debate Team and received the Julia Burke Award from
the American Debate Association. She is active in support of the
Baltimore Urban Debate League and the Baltimore College Debate Initiative.
