Civic Engagement and Leadership encompasses active citizenship, community involvement, advocacy, awareness of social issues and injustices, and the development of personal and social responsibility. Civic Engagement requires students to involve themselves in society with the intent to better the world around them through their leadership. We offer many opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to practice civic engagement and leadership at Towson University.
The Office of Civic Engagement & Leadership promotes political engagement, sponsors environmental initiatives, and service-learning initiatives for faculty along with the campus newspaper program, monthly New York Times Talk lunches, and panels and debates on Freedom Square.
Towson University students take the Tiger Pledge during New Student Convocation and at Commencement and are challenged to live up to the ideals of the pledge.
