Smikle serves on the Board of Trustees of Saybrook University, the National Advisory Board of ElevateMeD, and, by way of a gubernatorial appointment, on the Oversight Committee on Quality of Care in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.in Maryland.

Smikle is actively engaged in her community. She provides ad hoc resource development to organizations seeking to improve the lives of the poor and underserved. She coordinates national food drives to feed low-income senior citizens through Food on the 15th.

She serves, through her membership in the Executive Alliance, as a mentor to mid-career women preparing themselves for advancement. The Executive Alliance is a selective membership organization that accelerates the success and leadership of accomplished women by expanding their impact and influence.

Golf, pickleball, travel, antiquing, and cooking are her favorite hobbies. Smikle is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
