Dear TU students, faculty and staff:

On Saturday evening, our Office of Public Safety responded to reports of an armed robbery on campus.

For those who may have missed Saturday evening’s public safety message, our Office of Public Safety issued a timely warning, which is our practice whenever such incidents occur, via email and text that read, in part: Two individuals were the victims of an armed robbery outside West Village Commons located on campus. Three unknown suspects took the victims’ personal property and fled the campus last seen on Osler Drive. The suspects were observed in a red Honda four-door with Maryland Tag 4EF1813.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact TU’s Office of Public Safety at 410-704-4444.

Our Office of Public Safety is a fully certified and dually accredited police agency. Our officers are working closely with other allied agencies in Maryland to bring closure to this case.

This incident was not a random act. Rather, it was a targeted crime committed by individuals intentionally preying upon unsuspecting members of our community through deception and misrepresentation of their purpose in coming to our campus. The suspects fled the area, and our officers immediately began compiling evidence to expedite their arrest. Fortunately, none of the victims of this crime were injured. There is no known current threat to the safety of our Towson University community.

TU’s Office of Public Safety encourages all members of our community to be aware of your surroundings and the people at the location. And, if meeting someone for the first time, do so in a public place that is well traveled, well lit, and let a friend know who you're meeting.

Crime has no place on our campus.

I want to assure you that my priority, as well as that of the entire university leadership, is the safety of our campus community. TU has resources — listed on the Office of Public Safety website — in place to help our campus remain vigilant, stay informed and be prepared. TU students, faculty and staff automatically receive emergency alerts from our Office of Public Safety when such alerts are warranted. Additionally, others also may sign up to receive alerts.

Thank you for supporting one another and for doing your part to keep our community safe.

Sincerely,

Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
