Welcome Back, Tigers!
President Ginsberg sent the following message to the TU community to celebrate the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
I’m thrilled to welcome you back to campus for the start of another great year at Towson University.
Whether you spent the summer engaged with classes, working, conducting research or simply enjoying a much-deserved break, I hope you have returned refreshed and with energy and excitement for the year ahead. For Elaine and me, although the summer provided time for some respite, it seemed to fly by faster than ever.
As we near the first anniversary of our arrival on campus, it feels as though TU has been our home for much longer than a year. We truly are proud to have become members of our incredible university community. We look forward to another inspiring year filled with success for our students, staff and faculty.
There’s already been much to celebrate. This fall, we’ve welcomed thousands of new students, staff and faculty to TU. In fact, we have enrolled nearly 5,300 new students who have joined our Tiger community. And, more than 100 new staff and faculty members also recently joined our university.
We were so pleased recently to have opened our beautiful new Health Professions Building, the latest state-of-the-art educational facility on our campus—one that I believe is among the best facilities of its kind in the nation.
In addition, Tiger Athletics is off to an exciting start for the fall schedule, and students participating in our arts programs have begun rehearsals for performances in the semester ahead.
I know this year, like every year, will bring its share of challenges, even while we work to optimize our opportunities. As you have likely heard, every Maryland agency will face budgetary pressures in response to the recently announced state-wide budget cuts. We, too, are required to “tighten our belt” and reduce our expenditures, which will require us to review how we spend and where we invest. Fortunately, higher education is strongly valued in our state, and its value proposition remains highly positive.
Be assured, we will continue to affirm the importance of the work that we do and the quality of our programs, as we also support every member of our community and promote their success. TU is on a path of upward trajectory. I am confident that our positive momentum will continue this year.
It is my honor to serve as TU’s president. I look forward to a remarkable new year filled with energy, vitality, collaboration and a shared commitment to our students and each other.
All the best, welcome back and GO TIGERS!
Sincerely,
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
