Dear Towson University faculty & staff:

I am very pleased to announce that Stephanie Shea has accepted the leadership position as TU’s General Counsel and Vice President for Legal Affairs. Ms. Shea was appointed after an extensive search that yielded a field of impressively qualified and experienced candidates. She begins her appointment July 15, 2024.

Reporting to the President, serving as a member of the President's Cabinet and an officer of the university, Ms. Shea will provide university-wide leadership on legal affairs in collaboration with our team of attorneys in the Office of General Counsel.

Stephanie joins TU from Johns Hopkins University, where she has served since 2015, most recently as Senior Associate General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer. Her prior experience includes serving as Assistant Attorney General for the Educational Affairs Division of the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland, work in private practice in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and service as a federal law clerk at the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University, where she was also a four-year competitor on the women’s swim team. She earned Juris Doctor from University of Virginia School of Law.

The search committee did an outstanding job conducting a thorough, comprehensive and competitive search process and screening. I am pleased to extend my deepest gratitude to Aneil Mishra, Dean of the College of Business & Economics, for his leadership as chair of the search committee. To the members of the search committee, I want to thank each of you for serving the university in this very important process. The committee members were:

  • Aneil Mishra, Dean of the College of Business & Economics (Chair)
  • Bart Debicki, Professor, Department of Management
  • Joshua Hayes, AVP, Institutional Equity and Compliance
  • Katie Hine, Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student Services and Sport Administration/SWA
  • Joselyn Johnson, Director, Procurement
  • Andrew Rosenblum, Technology Support Specialist, College of Liberal Arts
  • Anthony Skevakis, AVP for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
  • Jen Stano, AVP for Human Resources

This search couldn’t have been done without the outstanding support from our colleagues in the Office of Human Resources, particularly Nyasha Lumumba, Talent Acquisition Manager, who served as the key facilitator and coordinator for this comprehensive national search. I also want to thank Chief Human Resources Officer Steve Jones and Jen Stano, AVP for Human Resources, for their support.

In addition, I am also very pleased to announce an ongoing restructuring of the Office of the General Counsel and that, as this process continues, Matt Reinhart will serve as Deputy General Counsel, effective July 15. Until that time, Matt will continue to serve as our highly respected Interim Vice President, as he has since December 2023. Matt is a tremendous leader, a valued colleague and someone who I’ve counted on as a trusted advisor during this transition. I look forward to his continued leadership in this elevated role.

I know you all will join me in welcoming Stephanie to TU, and in thanking Matt for his sage advice and well-informed leadership. And I also know you will join me in offering our support as they transition into these important roles later this summer.

Sincerely,

Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
