Commencement is one of the biggest events at Towson University, celebrating those who are taking their next steps in the world. This big operation wouldn’t run nearly as well as it does without the help of staff and faculty volunteers during each of the six ceremonies.

“Commencement is why we do what we do. It's the culmination of the work everyone on campus does all year,” says Steve Rosenfeld, director of alumni communication and recognition and previous Commencement volunteer.

“It gives me the opportunity to interact with families and friends during one of the most joyful days of their lives. I get to meet parents, children, great grandparents and more who tell me stories about their loved ones and how proud they are of their accomplishments. It's like I get to be part of their families for a brief moment in time, and it's very rewarding.”

Spring Commencement consists of six ceremonies over three days, and TU is looking for volunteers for all six. Several volunteer positions exist, including:

My favorite part is alleviating stress and bringing good energy to such an important day.

She says, “My favorite part is alleviating stress and bringing good energy to such an important day. You're having a hair mishap? Let me get some bobby pins. You are looking for accessible seating? Right this way! We can help students and their loved ones enjoy the big day by making life easier in small ways.”
