Mission
The Study Abroad & Away Office creates high impact learning experiences for all Towson
University students to gain global perspectives as part of their educational journey.
Our intentional advising, collaborative campus connections, and strategic program
development reduce academic and financial barriers, increase access for underrepresented
students, and expand scholarly excellence beyond the boundaries of the TU campus.
In support of the TU mission, we offer opportunities that foster intellectual inquiry
and critical thinking to empower students on their lifelong path to becoming socially
responsible, engaged citizens of the world.
Vision
We strive to be recognized as a model for our innovative education abroad and study
away practices and aspire to advance the internationalization of Towson University by increasing
student participation through curriculum integration and partnerships.
Liz currently advises for Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Semester at Sea. She
is also the designated liaison for TU student athletes interested in studying abroad
or away. Liz works closely with the AVP for International Initiatives and the Faculty
Committee on Study Abroad and Away to develop policies and procedures to facilitate
successful experiences for students overseas and in the U.S. and collaborates with
other units, academic departments and colleges, and faculty to create global learning
opportunities for all TU students. Liz holds an M.A. in Liberal and Professional Studies
from Towson University and a B.A. in Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University
in the UK. Liz moved to the U.S. from Bristol, England in 1998 and joined the TU Study
Abroad & Away Office in 2000.
Jacklyn currently advises for the Americas, Spain, Oceania, the TU Global Internships
program, and the National Student Exchange (NSE), and is also the designated liaison
for military affiliated students. She serves as the NSE coordinator for incoming and
outgoing students, administers the TU Study Abroad & Away scholarships program, and
is the primary lead for marketing and outreach in our office. Jacklyn earned an M.A.
in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and
a B.A. in German and International Studies at Susquehanna University, including a
semester studying abroad in Germany. Jacklyn joined the TU Study Abroad & Away Office
in August of 2017.
Lyndsi advises for Europe (except for Spain) and is the designated liaison for first-generation
college students. She is the primary coordinator for our Horizons web-based management
system, facilitates all billing and registration for Study Abroad & Away, and is responsible
for our pre-departure and reentry programming. Lyndsi completed an M.A. in International
Education at George Washington University and got her B.A. in Mass Communication and
Marketing right here at TU! Lyndsi was a member of the TU Honors College and spent
a semester studying abroad at the University of Leeds in the UK in 2015. Lyndsi joined
the TU Study Abroad & Away team in April 2023.
Brooke advises for and manages the application, admission, and orientation process for faculty-led
programs and is the designated liaison for LGBTQ+ students. She also organizes our
bi-annual Study Abroad & Away fairs, is responsible for the coordination of overseas
health insurance coverage for participants on TU study abroad programs, and helps
keep the office running smoothly. Brooke completed an M.S. in Marketing at the University of Tampa and got her B.A.
in History and French at the Ohio State University where she particiated in an Honors
faculty-led program to London, UK. Brooke joined the TU Study Abroad & Away team in
August 2024.
Nastya works on key Study Abroad & Away projects including social media, coordinating
in-class presentations, and collating and analyzing data. She holds a B.A. in Asian and African Studies from Saint Petersburg University in
Russia and spent a year studying abroad in China. Nastya is pursuing an M.A. program
in Marketing Intelligence at TU and joined the TU Study Abroad & Away team in August
2023.
