Exhibition: Fortune: Folly
Artist kelli rae adams uses clay in various states of permanency—often alongside additional materials—to create installation-based works that examine prevailing economic systems and probe our existing relationships to labor, currency and value.
In fortune : folly, kelli rae adams brings together objects and gestures relating to luck and fortune, juxtaposing the aspirational ideology of American culture with the increasingly stark economic realities of life in 21st century America. Employing cross-cultural references and participatory elements drawn from her childhood through the years she spent living in Japan, the installation also confronts visitors’ preconceptions as they relate to questions of origin, agency, and potential. The installation also invites reflection on notions of failure and success.
