Towson University’s Health and Physical Education (HPED) major prepares future educators to promote lifelong wellness, physical activity, and emotional well-being among youth. Graduates will be eligible to apply for dual PreK–12 certification in Physical Education and Health Education (pending Maryland State Department of Education approval) and may qualify for certification in other states.
Program Overview
Over the past two decades, the fields of health and physical education have evolved substantially, embracing a broader understanding of wellness, inclusion, and lifelong active living. The HPED major builds on Towson University’s long tradition of excellence in teacher preparation with a forward-looking curriculum that integrates health education, kinesiology, and pedagogy to prepare students as leaders in today’s schools and communities.
This 120-credit program combines rigorous coursework with hands-on teaching experiences to develop skilled, culturally competent educators who can make a meaningful impact on the lives of diverse learners.
