Biography

Mona Mohammadifirouzeh, Ph.D., M.S.N, RN is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing at Towson University’s College of Health Professions. Originally from Iran, Dr. Mohammadifirouzeh is fluent in Persian/Farsi and brings a rich international perspective to her role. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N) from the Iran University of Medical Sciences and her Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N) from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Following her advanced studies in Iran, she continued her academic journey in the United States, where she obtained her Ph.D. in Nursing from George Mason University.

During her Ph.D. program, Dr. Mohammadifirouzeh received the Camille Barry Nursing Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship, awarded in recognition of her excellence as a nursing Ph.D. student. Her dissertation, a mixed-method study, explored professional mental help-seeking intention and behaviors within the Iranian-American community, reflecting her commitment to culturally competent care and research.

With a strong foundation in global health, Dr. Mohammadifirouzeh has been actively involved in research projects funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the World Health Organization (WHO), UNAIDS and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Her work at an HIV research center and with Doctors Without Borders allowed her to provide essential care to vulnerable populations, including sex workers, individuals with HIV, the LGBTQ community and those affected by substance use disorders.
