Dr. McMahand’s research pivots between literary analysis and political debate and addresses the emerging theme of black self-destruction in political and Cultural Studies discourse. In his teaching, Dr. McMahand takes as his guiding beacon Alice Walker’s instruction that “good teaching [is] a circle of earnest people sitting down to ask each other meaningful questions.” Prior to joining the English department at Towson University, Dr. McMahand was assistant professor of English at Tennessee State University.
