Courtney Martin, M.Ed.

Biography

Ms. Martin’s career spans thirty-five years, with a focus on developmentally appropriate practice and teaching and community leadership. She was a classroom teacher and collaborated with independent schools in Maryland to develop pre-first programs. She was Head of Lower School for the start-up of an independent Pre-K-12th grade school, establishing policies, procedures, curriculum, and systems emphasizing leadership education. In addition, she was Director of Education for early intervention for children with autism. She has served as an educational consultant for independent and state school initiatives and developed an educational leadership model and life skills curriculum for at-risk youth in urban residential homes. Prior to coming to Towson University, she was the executive director of a nonprofit providing free medical care to communities in Central and South America.

Since coming to the university in 2010, Ms. Martin has taught undergraduate courses and done student advising for family and human services majors. In addition, she has served as a First Year Experience adviser, assisting students in their transition to Towson University. She has served on department and university committees focused on universal design and course redesign.
