Bill Tsitsos came to Towson University in 2007 after earning a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. His dissertation examined the social service activities of religious congregations. Besides the sociology of religion, he is also interested in the sociology of culture, particularly music-based subcultures. Dr. Tsitsos teaches courses Sociology of Religion & Sociological Theory. In the past, he has taught the Sociology of Popular Culture, as well as a Towson Seminar course on the Sociology of Food. Dr. Tsitsos is currently working on an article analyzing the straight edge hardcore punk music scene as a form of ascetic religion, as well as a project to understand why so many people in the US have become hyper-conscious of being "disrespected" in recent years.
