Teaching English Learners Graduate Certificate

Did you know that there are over 5 million English learners in the United States? This 100% online program will prepare you to teach this population and work with their families.

The Teaching English Learners Graduate Certificate (TELGC) is a four-course program that prepares current teachers, prospective teachers and other professionals working with multilingual students to implement instructional strategies to help them succeed academically.

The program prepares initially certified teachers to pass the Praxis II ESOL exam and earn a MSDE TESOL endorsement.

The program also welcomes those interested in less traditional education settings like adult education, community colleges or other related industries.

About the Program

  • 100% online in synchronous and asynchronous formats.
  • Program can be taken alone, independent of master’s program.
  • TU graduate students in the M.Ed. in Reading Education program, M.Ed. in Elementary Education or other TU graduate programs can enroll in the TELGC program and earn an additional graduate certificate. Talk to your program director to learn more.
  • Students can complete the TELGC program before applying to other master’s programs and possibly count their TELGC courses toward electives in their master’s program.
  • School teachers can participate in one-year cohorts and enjoy significantly reduced tuition through the Towson Learning Network (TLN) partnerships with regional school systems. Contact to learn more.
