Karen was also on the founding board for the Maryland Dance Education Association (MDEA) and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.
From 1997-2007, Karen owned and directed a dance studio for children ages 3-12. The technique classes were taught in French. Students performed at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, the Convention Center, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Walters Art Museum.
Karen delved into the Baltimore County school system in 1991. She taught French, Dance, Art and Movement, and Kindergarten French Immersion. She also developed a Dance Integration Program for West Towson Elementary School in Baltimore County Public Schools.
Throughout her career, Karen has shared her classroom excitement at conferences. Some of her favorite topics are: L’Évolution de la danse francophone, Books that Move: Incorporating Creative Movement in Story Time, The Brain and Language Learning, Dancing with the Visual Arts, Teaching French to Children on the Autism Spectrum, and Allons danser tout le monde!

Karen earned her Doctor of Education in 2018. Her dissertation is titled: A Phenomenological Study of Elementary Students in Dance Classes.
