Biography
Nicole Steinberg is a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at the University of Maryland, College Park, and former Director of Operations and Media of Opera Baltimore. Her current research examines Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s 1968 Holocaust opera The Passenger within trauma studies, moral responsibility and memorialization frameworks. Steinberg has presented her research at meetings of the Society of Ethnomusicology, the National WWII Museum Jenny Craig Institute for the Study of War and Democracy, the European Studies Conference and the Capital Chapter of the American Musicological Society. Steinberg has also published a Holocaust education lesson plan with Towson University’s Albert S. Cook Library in conjunction with the Jewish Museum of Maryland and given lectures at various Maryland organizations surrounding opera and Holocaust commemoration.
