Steven Satta

Biography

Steven J. Satta is a Professor of Voice and Acting. He holds a BFA in Drama from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and an MFA in Acting from York University in Toronto where he studied with David Smukler. While at York University he also earned an University Diploma in Voice Teaching.

He spent 15 years as a working acting in NYC before embracing a career in teaching. He has performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, off-off-Broadway, regionally and way-out-in-the-middle of nowhere for such companies as The National Actor's Theatre, The National Shakespeare Company, The Wayside Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre, The Ridiculous Theatrical Company and The Metropolitan Opera Company.

He also spent many years as in Arts-in-Education as both a teaching artist and administrator. He taught for ENACT, Theatre for a New Audience, Broadway Theatre Institute, and Young Audiences NY. He was the Interim Education Associate for TFANA and the Program Director for ENACT. He was also a member of the Irondale Ensemble Project, teaching in the NYC school system, in community, clinical, and institutional settings, as well as performing with the company as an actor.

Since moving to Baltimore in 2000, he has worked as an actor, director and dialect consultant for such companies as The Maryland Ensemble Theatre, Everyman Theatre, The Olney Theatre, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, and UB Spotlight.

He is also the founding Artistic Director of the Iron Crow Theatre Company, which is a company dedicated to LGBT/Queer theatre. Since Iron Crow has existed, it has been positively reviewed in major media outlets – The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore City Paper, BroadwayWorld.com and WYPR (Baltimore public radio). It has raised money for various LGBT charities and has partnered with Broadway Impact to raise awareness of issues around marriage equality in Maryland. www.ironcrowtheatre.com

He makes his home in Hamilton with his partner Patrik and their furry family: Maggie, Caleb and Jake the Goldendoodle.
