Teresa Spencer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, where she teaches acting, voice, and movement. She hold an MFA in Acting from the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting at the George Washington University. In the professional theatre, she works as an actor, deviser, dialect coach, and theatrical movement coach, with a focus on ensemble creation in heightene forms from verse language to physical theatre. She has performed or coached in over seventy-five regional and international productions, with companies including the kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Teatro delle Due, Rep Stage, and Constellation Theatre Company. She is a company member with the Washington, DC ensemble of actors, dancers, and musicians Taffety Punk Theatre Company, where she frequently performs in all -female Riot Grrrl casts of the classics, and a resident artist with the Cincinnati-Based multimedia arts organization Waltherhoope, where she writes and develops new work. Her ensemble performance and devising work has been nominated for three Helen Hayes Awards. She is a certified Assistant Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher, and a Society of American Fight Directors Advanced Actor Combatant.
