Student Leadership

Leadership development is a cornerstone of the TU student experience. Towson University believes that leadership is not about being in charge; it is about your integrity, your self-awareness, and your vision for creating change well beyond the classroom.

Leadership experiences at TU are designed to develop engaged and self-aware students who possess the skills necessary to create positive change not only in the TU community, but in the greater global community as well. TU is an ideal setting for students to grow as individuals and leaders.

The Office of Student Activities offers the following leadership education opportunities, so there is something for everybody:

Paid Leadership Opportunities

Student Leadership Consultants (SLC) participants are a part of the Student Activities team and serve as peer educators who promote and teach leadership to students through workshops, retreats, and conferences. As an SLC, you will learn invaluable skills such as workshop facilitation, leadership experience, event planning, and program assessment.

Contact Student Activities for more information.

Orientation Leaders (OL) are the incoming students’ first impression of what it truly means to be a TU Tiger. OLs direct new students through orientation, convocation, and Welcome to TU weekend, maintaining a positive attitude and high level of energy throughout the orientation process.

Resident Assistants (RAs) are in charge of maintaining a welcoming atmosphere in each of the on-campus living communities around campus. In addition, RAs are also responsible for promoting the values and ideals of a Towson University student and encouraging his/her residents to do the same by hosting various programs and events throughout the semester. For more information on what it means to be a Resident Assistant, visit the HRL website.

The Students Achieve Goals through Education (SAGE) Program works to incorporate new students into many educational, cultural and social aspects that Towson University has to offer. Each SAGE mentee is paired with a SAGE mentor who takes on the role of guiding their mentee through their first year at Towson. This includes helping with career choice, major and minor selection, course registration, identifying campus organization and activities, employment, roommate relationships, financial aid, and navigating the campus and Metropolitan Baltimore. Learn more information about the SAGE mentorship program.

Career Peer Advisers are leaders trained to guide and assist students with resume and cover letter reviews, job search strategies, and general career concerns in both group and 1:1 settings. These positions allow for the development and application of leadership, communication, analytical, and advising skills. Career Peer Advisors work 6-10 hours per week, are paid, and receive intensive training. If you are interested in exploring CPA opportunities, contact the Career Center at .
