"The Imaginary App" 150th Speakers Series Presents DJ Spooky

Visiting Scholar Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky is the College of Fine Arts and Communications' 150th Keynote Speaker.

Towson University 150th Speakers Series welcomes visiting scholar Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky to the Center for the Arts as the College of Fine Arts and Communications’ 150th keynote speaker. Spooky, whose address on Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in the Harold J. Kaplan Concert Hall is titled “The Imaginary App,” explores how mobile apps promise to deliver happiness to our devices at the touch of a finger.

COFAC Dean Susan Picinich said, “The College of Fine Arts and Communication is excited to host DJ Spooky as the college’s 150th anniversary speaker.  He’s a brilliant and accomplished composer, multimedia artist and writer who has performed and collaborated with artists world-wide. Presenting cutting-edge artists for our students to have the opportunity to work with in master classes is our mission as a public university. We’re thrilled he’s our keynote speaker and looking forward to listening to this Renaissance man for the digital age.”

He served as the first artist-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC in 2012 – 2013 and has produced and composed work for Yoko Ono, Thurston Moore, and scores of artists and award-winning films.

His work as a media artist has appeared in the Whitney Biennial; The Venice Biennial for Architecture; the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany; Kunsthalle, Vienna; The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. His book "Sound Unbound," an anthology of writings on electronic music and digital media, is a best-selling title for MIT Press. He has been featured everywhere from Elle to CNN to SyFy.

“The Imaginary App,” Friday, April 1 – 6 p.m. Harold J. Kaplan Concert Hall, Center for the Arts followed by a benefit reception and book signing. The keynote address is free; however, tickets are required. The benefit reception is $25 and tickets are available through the Center for the Arts box office and online at tuboxoffice.com/150. "The Imaginary App" by Paul D. Miller will be for sale at the lecture event. Patrons purchasing a $50 ticket to the reception will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
