TU to host two community movie nights on Unitas Stadium field

Towson University is hosting two community movie nights for greater Baltimore area families this summer, expanding its offering in the fourth consecutive year in the series.

The community movie nights are being held at Johnny Unitas Stadium, allowing families to bring blankets onto the field and lawn chairs onto the track and view two recent feature films on the stadium video board.

TU will show Aladdin on August 17 with gates opening at 6 p.m. The film begins at 7 p.m. The university featured Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on July 20.

Parking is available in Lots 13 and 14. Guests should enter the stadium through Gate C.

Guests are invited to bring food into the stadium. Hotdogs, beverages and Rita’s Italian Ice will be provided free of charge to the first 200 in attendance. In addition, entertainment will include inflatables, balloon creations, a photo booth and face painting.

Guests are encouraged to bring school supplies — including three-ring binders, markers, pencils, pens, crayons, notebook paper, folders (with or without brads), highlighters, scissors, rulers, pencil containers and book bags —  for donation to The Education Foundation of Baltimore County Public Schools.

The event falls in-line with TU President Kim Schatzel’s Together Towson initiative, strengthening the university’s connection to its neighbors in the community.

“From our academic programs to our community partnerships, we have so much to offer Greater Baltimore here at TU,” President Schatzel said. “I can think of no better way to celebrate what is truly great about the summer months than to open our stadium gates for our community and allow our neighbors to join together and partake in some quality family and neighborly time with one another.”

The movie series also affords the Towson community the unique opportunity to get out onto the football field at Johnny Unitas Stadium. This fall, the Tigers football team enters the season ranked as one of the top teams in the Football Championship Subdivision.

“We hope that families find a reason to come out to the stadium for movie night, enjoy themselves, and plan to make a return trip to see the Tigers in action this fall,” TU Director of Athletics Tim Leonard said. “From football to basketball to lacrosse and all the sports in between, there are plenty of quality entertainment options for our community’s families through Towson Tigers athletics.”

The Tigers open the home schedule on Sept. 7 at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
