New mural in downtown Towson features TU

Tiger pride is on full display in downtown Towson. 

A new mural on the side of the Wells Fargo Bank at Pennsylvania Avenue and York Road includes the TU Tiger and Stephens Hall clock tower alongside other local and state symbols.

Painted by Greenbrier artist Amy Redondo, it’s the first public art project from the Towson Creative Partnership, a group within the Towson Chamber of Commerce co-chaired by Redondo and Knollwood resident David Riley.

Launched by Baltimore County Councilman David Marks in January, the committee aims to strengthen and diversify Towson's downtown economy while connecting surrounding communities through a creative urban landscape. 

Towson University’s prominent placement in the mural reflects the university’s commitment to the vitality and growth of downtown Towson. In March, TU announced plans to transform the Armory into a hub for partnership and connection as part of President Kim Schatzel’s Together Towson initiative.

“Welcome to Towson” is the first of many public art projects from the Towson Creative Partnership. A plan that will bring together local artists and business sponsors to paint utility boxes and flower planters throughout downtown Towson is in the works for 2020.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday has been rescheduled to Friday, August 9 due to weather.
