Tigers win home opener before biggest crowd since 2014

The Towson University football team is 2-0 after a dominating performance Saturday before the largest crowd at Johnny Unitas Stadium since 2014.

The Tigers — ranked in the top 10 in both key Football Championship Subdivision polls — opened a four-score lead at the half en route to a 42-3 win against North Carolina Central before 8,322 fans.

The crowd was supported by a large contingent of TU students — freshmen were welcomed to the field to lead the Tigers out of the lockerroom before the game began.

It was also supported by hundreds of TU faculty and staff that attended President Kim Schatzel's cookout before kickoff.

It was the largest crowd for a home opener since 2014 — the first game back at The U since playing for the national championship the winter prior.

The 2-0 Tigers visit Maine on Sept. 14 before returning to The U on Sept. 21 to host Villanova — kickoff for the second home game of the season is also set for 6 p.m.
