Career Center ready to help TU’s newest alumni join workforce

This May, Towson University will welcome 3,350 new members to its alumni community.

With many of these students ready to join the workforce, the Towson University Career Center is ready to help them move forward.

“Graduating can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time,” says Sara Harrison, the Career Center’s health and wellness career coach. “It’s okay to be unsure of next steps and don’t be afraid to ask for help. The Career Center is here to support you throughout your college career and beyond.”

As TU’s next alumni take their first post-academic steps, they will have access to the following resources to advance their careers and reach their goals.

Career Center Resources

Handshake

TU alumni have unlimited access to the Career Center’s job database, Handshake, which features a list of full- and part-time opportunities as well as internships. Handshake also allows alumni to post their resumes online for potential employers to view.

Job fairs and events 

Recent alumni (up to two years post-graduation) have free admission to the Career Center’s annual spring and fall job & internship fairs. They will also have access to information sessions and networking events hosted on campus. Learn more about these events by signing into Handshake.

Career assessments 

Assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, CliftonStrengths and the Strong Interest Inventory are available with a one-hour interpretation for recent alumni (up to two years post-graduation)

Career coaching

Recent alumni (up to two years post-graduation) may take advantage of Express Hours or meet with a career coach for up to three, in-person career counseling or coaching appointments.

Connections to community resources 

The Career Center can connect you with career and job search resources in the community.

Career skill development

Alumni will have online access to sample resumes and cover letters, salary negotiation strategies, interviewing skills practice through the Big Interview program among other career skill development programs.

Tiger Mentor Network 

The Tiger Mentor Network connects students and recent alumni with older TU alumni who can offer relevant career advice and opportunities to network.

Relationships with mentors can be as simple as asking a quick question over email, talking on the phone or meeting virtually/in-person for an informational interview. Students and recent alumni may even develop a longer-term, more formal mentor connection.

Leaving already prepared

But many of TU's newest alumni are already prepared to enter the workforce.

Each year, the Career Center surveys the graduating undergraduate class to assess post-graduation status regarding employment and continuing education.
