Towson University Homecoming 2022 is in the books, and it was a great week to be a Towson Tiger.
Experiences and events allowed the TU community to show its stripes, cheer on the Towson Tigers football team and celebrate the university's storied past and limitless future.
Gametime!
The stadium was rocking as the Towson Tigers football team took on Colonial Athletic Association rival William & Mary. Along with the action on the field, there was noise being made in the crowd thanks to the thousands in attendance and the Towson University Marching Band.
The fun before the game
Towson University fans, students and alumni came together before the game to bring the parking lots outside of Johnny Unitas© Stadium to life.
TU also provided several opportunities for students, faculty and staff to learn about various cultures. The Center for Student Diversity hosted "Sitting at Our Elders' Feet," in which current students heard stories from a panel of Black Towson University alums.
Students also learned about Native American arts and traditions from the Rosenberg Distinguished Resident Guest Artist Buck Hitswithastick.
A week full of on-campus events
The Towson University Homecoming Committee provided students with plenty of events to get involved with on campus. Among the favorites: Greek Life's annual Dance the Madness event at SECU Arena, a field day featuring many different events and the annual Block Party which provided plenty of food, fun and school spirit before Homecoming weekend.
Showing our stripes
Homecoming 2022 also introduced a new event — the Show Your Stripes Homecoming Parade. The parade featured students, faculty and staff displaying their Towson University pride as they walked through the middle of campus. The parade included performances by the Towson University Drumline, the TU Dance Team, the Vibe Dance Team and other organizations from the Towson University community.
Honoring TU's Trailblazers
TU honored several distinguished alumni who have provided profound leadership to advance diversity and inclusion on its campus and beyond.
Saturday morning, TU officially named two residence halls in West Village in honor of Ms. Marvis Barnes ’59 and Ms. Myra Harris ‘59, the university’s first Black graduates. This recognition celebrated their commitment to education and groundbreaking achievements.
This dedication was followed by the unveiling of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Tribute walkway, featuring a series of pillars on Chapman Quad representing TU’s nine historically Black fraternities and sororities.
