What’s new on campus for fall
Five new projects, spaces are changing the look of TU’s campus

From large-scale murals to new dining options, TU’s campus is always evolving. Here are five key projects to look for this fall, including a new athletic feature and a major renovation in the center of campus.
Smith Hall is being renovated.
A three-year construction and renovation project is transforming Smith Hall into the modern home of TU communications, media arts and teaching excellence. The older east wing of the building will be demolished this fall and replaced with a new addition extending northeast toward the Lecture Hall. The west wing will be completely renovated, offering students hands-on access to production, editing and news studios to support their coursework. The Faculty Academic Center of Excellence at Towson (FACET) will also be housed in the building.
Smith Hall and its adjacent walkway will remain closed for the duration of the project. Access the pedestrian map for recommended alternatives.
The Institute for Well-Being (IWB) has made a move.
Formerly located in downtown Towson, the College of Health Professions’ interprofessional education and outreach centers are now closer to campus. The Hearing & Balance Center moved into a larger, newly renovated space in the Administration Building this summer, occupying the spot just off the second-floor entrance. IWB’s three other centers—the Hussman Center for Adults with Autism, Occupational Therapy Center and Speech & Language Center—are now in a more modern, accessible location at 7400 York Road. A September ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the new locations of these innovative centers for health, wellness, research and education.
There’s a new track in Tigertown.
Eagle-eyed fans will notice a new track in Unitas Stadium. Resurfaced this summer as part of routine maintenance, the track’s new gray and gold coloring puts Tiger pride on display in South Campus. See it up close at football games this fall or watch it in action when the outdoor track and field season kicks off this spring.
The Glen Towers renovation continues.
Tower A is the latest building to close for a yearlong update as part of the Glen Towers Renovation project. Like Towers B and C before it, A will get new heating and air conditioning systems, windows, utility lines and a terracotta exterior. While the building and adjoining stairwell are closed, the sidewalk adjacent to Cross Campus Drive will remain open. Pedestrians can continue to travel from Cross Campus to the Glen Plaza; Glen Dining; Towers B, C and D; and the Glen Bridge. The building will reopen in summer 2024.
The College of Health Professions building has hit the home stretch.
TU’s state-of-the-art hub for health care research and practice is less than a year from completion. Exterior finishes were installed this summer along with two new crosswalks connecting the site to the Health & Counseling Centers and Burke Avenue. Walking by now gives you a good idea of what the building will look like when it opens in summer 2024. The 240,000-square-foot facility will bring almost all TU’s Health Professions programs together under one roof with access to hands-on research and simulation labs, patient exam rooms and more.
