Earlier this year, the Baltimore Business Journal announced that Patricia Bradley, TU’s Vice President for Inclusion and Institutional Equity, has been named one of the 2023 Leaders in Diversity.

Bradley is one of 12 local executives to be honored with this year’s award, which recognizes “business and nonprofit leaders who are advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in their own workplaces, as well as the broader community.”

Under Bradley’s leadership, TU has strengthened its reputation as a national leader in inclusive excellence. In 2022, the university earned its third-consecutive Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award, given annually by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine to universities that demonstrate “an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion across their campuses.” TU is one of only 104 universities in the nation to have received this honor in 2022.

In addition, TU placed No. 30 globally and No. 1 among U.S. institutions in gender equality in the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. TU was also named one of the top 40 LGBTQ+-friendly campuses in the country by Campus Pride Index – the only Maryland institution named to the list.

Bradley leads a team of nearly 30 staff members that oversee accessibility and disability services, diversity and inclusion initiatives, compliance, hate and bias prevention and support, and the Center for Student Diversity. Her office led the implementation of the university’s inaugural diversity strategic plan, which serves as a roadmap for the future of Towson University’s growingly diverse community.

Other honorees of the 2023 Leaders in Diversity Award include Dr. Tracey Durant, Executive Director of Equity with Baltimore City Public Schools, who previously served as adjunct faculty in TU’s College of Education; as well as alumna Lisa Walker ’00, the Chief Diversity and Learning Officer with GMBC HealthCare.

The 2023 Leaders in Diversity will be honored at an in-person event on Thursday, June 8 at Martin's Valley Mansion in Cockeysville.
