Dear TU community,

This has been a busy semester, Tigers. I’m writing this afternoon to thank our students, faculty and staff for all that you do as we make the turn into the home stretch of the fall.

Last month, I shared my presidential priorities for a new era at TU, aligned with our strategic plan and informed by community input over the last year. I want to highlight one today:

Raise the Bar for Belonging
With a steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, TU will continue to ensure every community member and visitor feels seen, heard, respected and valued. It is essential that TU recruits, retains and serves individuals from all backgrounds and continually works to eliminate systemic barriers to success.

As we continue our work, our studies and our research to address big questions of our world, we must hold this value true. We must stand together and stand up to discrimination and hateful speech or conduct by rejecting it wherever and whenever it occurs.

To raise the bar for belonging it takes everyone at our university to foster an inclusive and safe community, where every person is supported regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or levels of ability.

I commend the shared commitment our campus has shown to ensuring such an environment here at TU. I also remind you of our university policies — including those around chalking, social media and time, place & manner for expressive activities — and resources to combat hate & bias in our community.

As always, you are encouraged to report incidents that violate these policies to the Office of Public Safety or the Office of Inclusion & Institutional Equity. Please also refer to last week’s campus message for resources to maintain your well-being and engage in community conversations.

Together, we must continue to make TU an even more inclusive community, and raise the bar for belonging.

Sincerely,

Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
