Athletic Training (M.S.)
Application Deadlines
The Athletic Training (M.S.) program admits applicants for the Summer I term only (start date is what is listed for the 1st 5 week session and 7 week session on the Academic Calendar) with the following application deadlines:
- Priority Deadline: March 1
- Final Deadline: May 1
- Applicants from Morgan State University - Health Education, Pre PT Track Deadline: February 15
Admission Criteria
- No GRE scores are required.
- A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (on a 4-point scale) is required for full admission to the program, and 2.75 is required for conditional admission. GPA calculations may be based upon the cumulative units or the last 60 units of the degree. See graduate admission policies for more information.
- In-person interview: Competitive applicants will be required to interview with the athletic training faculty. Invitations will be made in March once application materials are received and reviewed. Interviews will take place in April.

- Transcript evidence of completing the following prerequisite courses with a grade
of “C” or better:
- Biology (100 level or higher) — 4 credits minimum
- Human Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab) — 4 credits minimum
- Human Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab) — 4 credits minimum
- Chemistry (with a lab) — 4 credits minimum
- Physics (with a lab; does not have to be calculus based) — 4 credits minimum
- Basic Statistics — 3 credits minimum
- Nutrition — 3 credits minimum
- Human Movement (Biomechanics) — 3 credits minimum
- Exercise Physiology — 3 credits minimum
- General Psychology – 3 credits minimum
Application Requirements
1. Complete an application through the Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS) with the following items:
- Official Transcripts
- Observation Hours: Documentation of 50 observation hours under the direct supervision of a Board certified and state credentialed athletic trainer (signed and dated by overseeing athletic trainer). Observation hours must occur in a minimum of two different clinical settings for at least 10 hours at each and should include a variety of populations. Feel free to use the form posted online under Student Resources.
- Emergency Cardiac Care certification: This is a basic life support certification that can be obtained from a professional organization such as Red Cross or American Heart Association, that should be up to date by May 1.
- Essay: Provide a maximum 300 word response to the following prompt - Elaborate on your short/long term goals as related to pursuing a career as an athletic trainer and how you will contribute to today's health care society.
- Current Resume: The resume should contain your education, work, volunteer and leadership experiences.
- Professional References: Input 2 professional references (at least 1 should be an athletic trainer) who should comment on your abilities to balance graduate coursework and semester long clinical rotations and have the characteristics to serve as a future health care provider.
